While in Washington,  they both were able to help with the Washington, D.C. C.A.R.E  Clinic.  (Communities are Responding Every Day)  Dr. Kapur who was the medical director of the first C.A.R.E. clinic in Houston, graciously agreed to be the medical director for this event.  Held at the convention center, over 1200 people received free medical care in one day.

On Saturday, September 26, 2009 the Lone Start Association of Free Clinics (LSACC), the National Association of Free Clinics (NAFC), and Dr. Oz partnered together to hold a one day free clinic.  Over 1700 patients came through our clinic on Saturday and these patients were given health education, exams, tests and then were matched with a free clinic in their area for follow up appointments.

Over 700 volunteers, including over 60 physicians, Family Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants participated. Dr. Jim Walton, a FOUNDING MEMBER OF LSACC, Dr. Bobby Kapur, an ER Director of Ben Taub Hospital and Dr. Robert Vollero, the Medical Director of San Jose Clinic served as medical directors.

This event will be an hour long special featured on the Dr. Oz show at a date to be determined.
The event has received a great deal of press (below)

This event was a showcase, on a very large scale, of the work that charity clinics do every day.
